Kain's career began in Melbourne in 1988 as a freelance Camera Assistant and Operator. Since then he has worked in a wide variety of roles in the Film, Television and Advertising industry. His graphics and web skills developed through many hours in the edit suite designing the look and feel of corporate videos, documentaries, television commercials and music videos. His graphic design style is varied having designed a wide range of brochures, DVD covers and posters for government agencies and aboriginal organisations to posters and flyers for Kongo, an 'alternative' music club where he was a DJ for over six years.
Kanaka Creative, operated by Kain Shepherd, is situated in Cairns, Far North Queensland, Australia and provides freelance editing and camera operating services to local, interstate and international television production companies. Kanaka Creative also provides affordable website and graphic design services to local businesses.
Kain launched Kanaka Creative in 2006 after a 5 year stint with Darwin's leading production house Burrundi Pictures & iTV64. His main role was as an Editor, whilst also being responsible for concept development, some producing and script writing, (and second camera) he gained much experience dealing with clients ranging from heads of government departments to small business operators and members of the general public. Before launching Kanaka Creative he successfully completed a small
business management course and is keen to bring all his talents together to provide professional services in television production, website and graphic design.
Kain's passion for the magic of Papua New Guinea has led him to twelve of the nineteen provinces. He has worked on two documentaries as camera operator in Papua New Guinea and has a good knowledge of Tok Pisin (Pidgin English), a clear understanding of the countries safety concerns, travel logistics and cultural sensitivities. Kain is a valuable crew member in Papua New Guinea.
